How to get out of ANY rut... AKA - Why you need to start milking your cookies...
Sep 08, 2022Nope, this isn't a recipe blog or a bakery review... but it will have a lot to do with milk and cookies and may even make you hungry or inspired (we hope both)! You get to choose your metaphorical milk -almond, oat, cow, soy- and cookies -chocolate chip, GF, paleo, peanut butter- and we are going to tell you what to do with them. 🥛🍪
You see recently, Ruby and I have been intentionally “milking” the shit out of our everyday, ordinary experiences and it's been HUGE! So huge, we had to share it with you...
But first, let me back up. Here's something you might not know about me... I like feeling good waaaaay more than I like feeling bad. (I'm guessing you do too...) However, I have come to realize as I get older, I can’t have fireworks, surprises, cupcakes and all the high-high’s every single moment of every single day.
For a long time, I relied on the BIG stuff in life to give me thrills and the massive serotonin hits AKA life’s ‘cookies’ and assumed I simply just had to settle for a "less than" sort of vibe all the rest of the time.
I WAS WRONG!!!!!!!
In fact, I was waaaay wrong. The high of feeling good that we all chase and love can actually be sustained day in and day out with a little effort.
Yes, you do have to work a bit for your joy. Not like digging ditches kinda work but you will need to put some effort into your lifestyle and your mindset every day to live with intention and ultimately live life on your terms. This is building on the teachings we've been sharing of the difference between life happening TO you and life happening FOR you.
We love sharing little (and big) life hacks on how to create more joy... and this!!! This is one of the juiciest and most sustainable practices... we're calling it...
🥛🍪 Milk Your Cookies!!! 🥛🍪
Milking your cookies means to get as much as you can from your moments for all that they are worth. It's not wasting a bit of the good stuff. This means beginning to take the time to notice and appreciated the tiny little in between things... The funny conversations you have with a grocery store clerk, the fresh scent of rain, your morning coffee, the color of the mailboxes on your daily walk, your green house plants, the light turning green, breath whenever you need it, electricity at the flip of a switch...
Find the simple things in your day to day experiences and LOVE the shit out of them. Whatever it is, if it's not going wrong, your job is to MILK IT FOR EVERY LAST DROP. Feel it in your body, celebrate it mentally, acknowledge it. Take the time to soak it all in, every day, every moment as much as possible. The little things *really* count and they are what keep you feeling high, alive, passionate, present, energized and lit TF up!
I currently live in a city that I don't quite love and may at some point, consider relocating but till then... I live in a big beautiful Victorian home that I just LOVE. I walk around my house and talk to my plants and tell them how much l LOVE them. I sip coffee on my front porch that I LOVE and watch the life around me. I LOVE my bedroom —my bed, my pillows, the organization I created, I LOVE it all. Sometimes I just lay in bed thinking about how wonderful it is that I have this space to retreat too. Every day I walk my dog in a beautiful historic district. I LOVE the colors of the houses, the architecture, the decorated porches and the tree-lined streets. Instead of complaining about or focusing on all the things I hate about the city, I milk each thought of appreciation, each glimpse into someone else’s world, each warm breeze that hits my skin as I walk with total awe, wonder and appreciation in my heart for all the beauty around me.
I'm choosing to just LOVE how it feels.
I’ve made a habit of milking the moments in between and let me tell you— joy has never been more accessible to me than it is right now in my life. You know who else is really good at this???
Make a habit out of it —learn to LOVE the in between— and then let brain science take over! And maybe have a glass of milk/mylk and snack on cookies to celebrate!
